The old barn in flowery field

old barn and flowery field

Well, as you might have gathered form my last post I really had a thing for this old red barn in the town of Upper Jay. I have been going through some of the various takes and compositions and I'm really feeling good about this particular one. I think the last one from the last post and this one is what i'll be working with.
It was very overcast and had just rained when this shot was taken. The grass was so wet that I was soaked from the waist down after trudging through trying to obtain the right angles and distance.

let me tell ya, it was worth the soaking to get this shot! i think it is perfect! the colors, the composition, the contrast of a decaying and dilapidated barn against a beautiful field of flowers. love it.

sometimes i am so mad when it is overcast and i am trying to photograph. it makes a huge difference, and sometimes a difference for the better.

Upper Jay. What a charming name for a town. I have a thing for mellow old ramshackle barns and this one is incredible! Fabulous shot, Gary.

Great shot as usual! =)
I love gloomy days!! doesn't give me headaches, and sun burn. hehe

yeah I guess that's how I scare people. I don't always dress in black, sometimes super colorful. When I take photos, it would come out dark or really bright. Usually people don't see it coming. hehe >:D

This photo has everything going for it; the lovely color of the milkweed(?) draws right to the barn and the dark sky is the perfect mood for the old barn. Love the angle of the shot too. Makes the barn into a ship's prow shape to go with that sky. You nailed it!

lovely, lovely picture! it is like in a dream, the milkweed, the green green grasses, the old barn, the overcast sky, the trees and how you presented them makes this picture really stunning.

Oh Gary, as always you have outdone yourself. Thanks for this. It made me sigh (but in a good way).

This is a nice shot. I'm liking some of your others more, but this is nice.
Please don't overlook the first top B/W shot of the leaning shack in the last post. Good variety of line direction in that one...
imho :-)

There's something about the flowers in the front that really do it for me. I'm not even sure why. They just do.

Most excellent, Gary. I prefer cloudy days so long as there is at least some definition in the sky as there is here (and thank you for not *overdoing* it).. the soft light is much nicer than bright sunlight, especially for this kind of subject. I can feel the humidity and smell the rain in this shot.. I'm an easterner born and bred, but have been out west so long now that I tend to forget how different and lush it is in the summer. Ideal composition and that barn has a whole lot of character.. Well worth some wet shoes and jeans I'd say.

mmm hmmm, yes, definitely. As well as this shot, I very much like the 2nd shot of the old shack in Jay. And of course, the story of getting soaked to get the right shot is great! (And all too familiar). :)

Anyway, love your treatment of those great old buildings-- keep up the greatness!
