Once upon a time
This is a photo from my "View from within" series. While displayed at a gallery, poet/writer S.David was inspired to write his thoughts on it.
Once Upon a Time
[by S. David] [art by Gary Heller]
Tragedy after tragedy
Finally she just
Picked herself up
Packed up
Walked away
Abandoned the house
Abandoned the furniture
Abandoned her
Once upon a time
Filled with joy home
A widow burying
Her young child
Time time time
She never sold
The house just
Left it then now
Twenty years and
She can face it
Again does she
Want to

Wow... what a gift you have. I always knew for myself your images inspire and evoke emotions and stories but I'm glad you get to see for yourself how powerfully it affects many people * applause*
Beautiful poem... and a perfect pair for your haunting photograph.
Wonderful poem, and fantastic photo, Gary! The image is very powerful..
Love the mystery in the photo and the words match the image perfectly. xx
I have always been fascinated with deriliction, despair, poverty ...
Your photo and the poem stand alone in their own right but together ... perfect.
How very flattering to have inspired poetry :) It's a wonderful image - classic in so many ways and so strong that it stays burned into my brain even now that I'm looking away.
I love the pairing of your photo and S. David's poem. I have always thought that your photography was pure visual poetry. Great team!
Cheers!
